Miami, the success story – Part 3 –

2Last week I concluded the article talking about the enthusiasm which has been growing around Miami these past decades. All that interest toward the city allowed developers to get more and more confident about investing in Miami. From 2000 to 2005 many projects were launched. For several years the market was doing great and prices were going through the roof. But we all know the story of the 2006’s crisis and how it affected the real estate market. Miami, the success story -part 2-

Last week I ended the first part of this article saying that Miami has become an international magnet. However the city had nine lives before getting there!  Indeed, let me remind you that back in 1970 buildings were run down, inhabited by elderly residents, and the criminality rate was hitting its record.

This is why in 1976 Barbara Baer Capitman and her son founded the Miami Design Preservation League. Their objective was simple: to give a second life to the city. They launched the restoration of the Art Deco architecture and the renovation of the Historic District. This started Miami’s revolution. The other eight lives can be summed up to the world famous Calvin Klein’s Obsession photo shoot which brought the model industry to Miami, or the release of movies as Scarface and Miami Vice and finally the legendary Versace legend. Miami, the success story – Part 1 –

After having spent 6 months in Miami, I thought it was about time to get a little acquainted with its history.  To my biggest surprise, it has not always been the attractive city that I now enjoy on a daily basis.

In the 1900’s there were only 1000 inhabitants living here and the only things that were related to Miami were criminality, hurricanes and alligators! Good at that time I wasn’t born yet ….Now the city counts 2.5 million people, is famous for its luxury market and attracts tourists from all over the world.

Don’t miss the Edition, a luxurious project in Miami Beach!

photo456The successful developer Ian Schrager, creator of Miami’s Delano Hotel and Shore Club, is coming back to Miami Beach to launch a great project. In cooperation with Marriott he is planning on revamping the Seville Hotel, which will be now called The Edition.
